Supervision with Maria Ganci
Why choose me as your supervisor?
Are you searching for an experienced and compassionate supervisor to guide you on your journey in the field of mental health, specifically in the realm of adolescent eating disorders? My passion is to share my extensive experience and knowledge to empower clinicians, like you, to develop and extend your professional skills.
Extensive Expertise: With over 20 years of hands-on experience in working with adolescent eating disorders, I have honed my skills to navigate both the macro and micro skills required to navigate the intricacies of this challenging field. I will provide you with invaluable insights from my deep understanding of the unique needs of both parents and adolescents during treatment in order to improve your outcomes. My guidance is rooted in evidence-based practices, ensuring that you develop the knowledge and skills required to make a lasting impact on your clients. My supervision style goes beyond clinical techniques. I take a holistic approach and I will guide you in understanding the broader context of adolescent eating disorders, including the psychological, social, and cultural factors that influence treatment.
Proven Track Record: My knowledge and expertise has been acquired from working in a specialized eating disorder clinic at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia, under the supervision of Professor Daniel LeGrange and Dr. Katherine Lobe. Under their guidance I achieved Supervisor Certification through the Training Institute for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorder where I also served as a faculty member for several years.
Cultural Sensitivity: My supervision isn’t confined to borders. Understanding and respecting cultural diversity is crucial in today’s mental health landscape. I have worked intensively in setting up FBT & APT in Japan and continue to provide ongoing supervision and consultation to ensure that their cultural needs are identified and treatment provides strategies that accommodate and respect their culture and foster inclusivity and trust.
Tailored Guidance & Supportive Mentorship: No two professionals are the same, and I understand that your supervision needs are unique. I pride myself on offering personalized guidance that aligns with your specific goals and aspirations, ensuring you grow both personally and professionally in your chosen field. I am dedicated in helping you become the best version of yourself as a mental health professional whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or a newcomer eager to make a difference in the field. I am committed to fostering a nurturing and empathetic learning environment and will provide unwavering support, encouragement, and constructive feedback to empower your growth and enhance your self-confidence.
I provide supervision in the following modalities:
Family Based Treatment (FBT) & Parent Focused Treatment (PFT): Both FBT & PFT have been found to be effective treatments for children and adolescents under the age of 19 and with a duration of illness less than three years.
Adolescent & Parent Treatment (APT): APT is a newly developed treatment with its origins stemming from the work of Dr. Ann Moye, Michigan, USA. APT takes a two-pronged approach by addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of the illness. APT supports parents with intensive refeeding and simultaneously provides psychological support to the adolescent.
Supervision and consultation is also available on how to Set up a Parent Education & Training Skills Workshop. The inclusion of parents in any adolescent treatment is critical to support treatment and ensure improved outcomes. Supervision will support the Parent Education & Skills Training I provide which guides and informs clinicians to understand what parents need to know in order to manage and support their adolescent.
